It’s March once again. Around these parts, that means March Madness, but in CHIKARA, it means the annual King of Trios tournament, where teams of three assemble for the prestigious King of Trios cup. Today, King of Trios participant and one third of the combination The UnStable, Vin Gerard, joins us for his thoughts and views on the annual tournament, this year taking place at the famed ECW Arena April 23rd, 24th, and 25th. Vin Gerard, welcome.
A) You're welcome.
Q) As a veteran trio of CHIKARA, do you feel like The UnStable has an advantage walking into the 2010 King of Trios, especially with outside teams like Team BJW, Team Osaka Pro, and other not so regularly teaming trios?
A) Yep.
Q) In your career in CHIKARA, you’ve wrestled both masked and maskless. What are the advantages of wrestling with a mask, as opposed to wrestling bare faced?
A) Haha, obviously. It's easy to read people without a mask, what and how they're feeling... with a mask, that's a little different. You have to force them to react.
Q) If you personally could choose one first round team to face, who would you choose?
A) Punting a what some call "a little person", has always been a goal of mine.
Q) And what is the one team you’re hoping to avoid in the tournament?
A) Non-english speaking teams, great.
Q) If you weren’t teaming with Colin Delaney & STIGMA, what other two wrestlers would you choose to team with to attempt to concur the King of Trios?
A) Giant Gonzalez & Great Khali
Q) As a “rudo” by classification, do you feel that the referees unjustly harass you and search you for international objects, more than he would a “technico” such as The Colony?
A) You might be onto something here.
Q) As a Young Lions Cup champion, your partner STIGMA a former Young Lions Cup champion, and Colin Delaney an extremely big star, do you feel as though your trio has been hindered a bit and not lived up to it’s fullest? Afterall, last year, you fell to a rather inexperienced as a group trio, of NXT Rookie Daniel Bryan, former Blue Blood Dave Taylor, and Brudenshaft leader Claudio Castagnoli, collectively known as Team Uppercut.
A) It's no secret that the UnStable isn't having the perfect year, but yeah... thing's are coming together. You're right, losing to three of the best wrestlers in the world is something to be ashamed of.
Q) Why are your tights ripped? Can’t you afford new ones?
A) What do you suppose I should wear? Buy me some.
Q) From reader hebtheeagle, what does the dumpster behind the ECW Arena smell like?
A) You're going to find out soon enough, dick.
Q) In 2007, you lost your mask to Chris Hero. Why would you so foolishly put your mask and identity on the line against a world class wrestler like Chris Hero, especially knowing if you lost your mask, you’d likely be vanquished from CHIKARA?
A) I already beat'em twice. And at that point, I didn't care anymore - it was now or never for "Equinox". I wanted nothing more than to humiliate Chris Hero.
Q) From reader “the franchise”, do you feel that your character in CHIKARA sometimes hinders you in other places? It has been said that not many people react to it elsewhere in the wrestling world, due to people not knowing the history behind it.
A) It's a lot easier for someone like myself to make the transition than saaayyy I dunno, a human ice cream?
Q) Brief thoughts on each of the following: Jimmy “Equinox” Olsen. A name association of sorts.
A) Big name in Chikara, now that he's me, circa 2006. Can't wait for him to make his way into the 2008 transition. Something about Jimmy Olsen in eyeliner...
Q) Ultramantis Black
A) Smartest idiot in wrestling.
Q) The Colony
A) I wish I thought of Carpenter Ant, haha.
Q) The Brudenshaft
A) Never heard of a Brudenshaft.
Q) Glacier
A) Gets one win and takes off, not surprised.
Q) Mike Quackenbush
A) has been duckin me for three years. Don't blame him.
Q) Vince McMahon
A) Gullible.
Q) Hulk Hogan
A) Twerp.
Q) Do you have any closing thoughts, statements, or other comments to the CHIKARA universe or to the wrestling world in general? Or anything you’d like to shill?
A) Nope.
Thank you for your time.
