Nintendo thinks used games aren't in best interest

Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime doesn’t feel that used games are “in the best interest of the consumer”.
During an interview with VentureBeat, NoA chief said that consumers are more interested in games they can “hold on to”.
“More and more retailers are experimenting with the used game model. We don’t believe used games are in the best interest of the consumer,” said Reggie.

“We have products that consumers want to hold onto. They want to play all of the levels of a Zelda game and unlock all of the levels. A game like Personal Trainer Cooking has a long life. We believe used games aren’t in the consumer’s best interest.”
He went on to point out that other used markets such as books, CDs and DVDs have never really taken off. He said the used game market will suffer the same fate.

“Describe another form of entertainment that has a vibrant used goods market,” he continued. “Used books have never taken off. You don’t see businesses selling used music CDs or used DVDs. Why? The consumer likes having a brand-new experience and reliving it over and over again.

“If you create the right type of experience, that also happens in video games.”

bunch of fucking bullshit, if you ask me. Just another case of Nintendo being money grubbing douchebags. I've got a DS, and because of how god damn expensive the games are, I only own two games (specificly) for it, one of which was a Christmas gift. Granted, I have a lot of Game Boy Advance games, but those were all purchased "back in the day" when GBA was the modern system. Paying $40 for a Game Boy Game, more in the case of the hits like Zelda, Pokemon, and Mario, is absurd. For them to want to discourage the use of pre-played and used games, saying they "aren't in the consumer's best interest" despite never actually giving any facts to say why, is fucking absurd. So what, you want to unlock all the levels and play through the whole game? Maybe someone should let this fucking genious in on the fact that you can do this on a used game in the exact same way you'd do it on a new game. The only difference, especially if you're buying from a reputable dealer, is that the game does not come shrink wrapped. If you're buying from a place like EB Games, there is no difference at all (for those who don't know, EB opens their new games to prevent theft). I've been buying used games since the end of the Super Nintendo era, and have never had an issue with them. From Funco Land, to Gamestop, to EB Games, to places like Disc Replay and even most recently video stores (Family Video + Tekken Tag Tournament + $2.99 price tag = very happy Hobo)
