FADE IN:
A plush media room within the confines of Radio City Music Hall, with buzzing reporters & columnists gathered. A single oak podium sits at the front of the room, with the official “BOOK Awards 2009: The Tradition Returns” banner donning the wall behind the podium.
A middle-aged man in a distinguished suit enters the room as the buzz from the reporters & columnists dies down, and the flashbulbs begin to pop slightly.
Man in Suit: Good afternoon, ladies & gentlemen of the New York, national & international press. We thank you for joining us, here at Radio City Music Hall, the site of the 2009 BOOK Awards. Today, as you know, is the official announcement of the confirmed nominees for each of the categories, presented at the BOOK Awards event, later this month. Here today – and I’m very happy to announce this very special guest to make these announcements – is a gentleman that, quite frankly, needs no introduction. A gentleman who is a living legend in the field that serves as the centerpiece and premise for the fantasy booking industry. A legendary personality, not just in sports-entertainment, but more importantly, sports-entertainment broadcast. Ladies & gentleman, please give a warm welcome… to the one & only, Good Ole JR, Mr. Jim Ross. (The assembly erupts in applause as the speaker backs away from the podium, clapping. Jim Ross makes his way into the media room, dressed in a tannish suit & his customary black cowboy hat, and carrying several sheets of neatly-folded paper. He shakes hands with the gentleman who announced him. He then assumes the podium, graciously taking in the warm applause.
JR: Thank you! Thank you very much, you’re too kind, really. (Applause finally dies down) Well, as Mr. Jamison just shared with you all, I am here to announce the OFFICIAL nominees for this year’s BOOK Awards, held Saturday night, February 28th, here at the beautiful & historic Radio City Music Hall. This session, unlike the Media Day a few weeks ago, will not be a Q & A session. As much as I’d love to, and will, share my thoughts & personal excitement about this momentous event, we’ll do it at a different venue & a different time. I’m thrilled to have been asked to deliver these announcements & will be on hand, on the big night, to watch it all unfold. Now then, without any further ado, let’s share the official BOOK Awards nominees… with the world. (Unfolds his paper, hidden well from the press by the front of the podium.
