It's Saturday, January 24th, 2009. The WWE is the only major player in the wrestling industry. Late last year, Vince and Linda McMahon announced they planned on cutting 20 Million Dollars from the WWE's budget.
After a long meeting, Titan Sports Inc. has decided it was going to end it's copy write ownership deal with most former WWE Talent. The logic is that they don't need to have the name of a guy like Justin Credible trademarked until who knows when because..
1) They don't plan on bringing back a lot of former talent,
2) It doesn't hurt the WWE at all if someone like Little Spike Dudley could be Little Spike Dudley on some small Indy show. and 3) Cutting unnecessary copy write expenses saves a lot of money.
Also; The end of contracts with a minimum guarantee. The WWE only introduced guaranteed contracts when a bidding war with WCW took place, and no WCW means there isn't much choice for the talent anyway. This is another way to free up some cash for WWE. They tell several mid-card talents "They may be on call to work. In the meantime, they are welcome to look for other work. Only three of the very top WWE Superstars are held down to long term contracts: Triple-H, The Undertaker, and Shawn Michaels.
This, however, was WWE's mistake.
Someone has taken advantage of all the free agents. All the copy write deals are done, allowing workers to use the moniker they are most established as. All the controversy surrounding the WWE's decision.
A New Pormotion is about to rise...And the Wrestling World is about to change forever.
