Hurt by Hobo... the way I wrote that makes it sound like some country music song about some woman who got her heart broken by a homeless guy.
Anyway, let the stream of consciousness observations begin!
-Really enjoyed the opening video montage thingy. I like those. That's why I do them too. And anything your show has in common with mine must mean it's friggin great, right? Right.
-Triple demerits for no introductory poem from Gertner.
-Seems a little weird to see Necro on the pre-show. You should totally give him an arrogant movie star gimmick now that The Wrestler has some Oscar noms.
-Damn crazy post-match brawl between Necro and Eastman Worldwide. The post-match actually was much more compelling than the match itself.
-I didn't realize you had Storm on the roster. Intriguing promo, heel Storm allied with, say, a Chris Hero would be a hell of a program.
-You actually found a use for Chris Masters! Comedy schtick tag matches. And it worked really well in my opinion to boot!
-While I have issues with the one long block o' text mainfesto style formatting, you're capturing a PPV experience in detail. The pre-show full of last-minute hype, the disclaimers at the start of the big show. I appreciate these little nuances.
-You can't go wrong with a spotfest for a PPV opener. I don't think I've ever seen any of these three guys, unless they're on one of the DVDs I haven't watched. Good action, though. The Quizno's shill mid-match was amusing.
-OK, a general point. The commentary is funny. But it feels like a never-ending Abbott and Costello routine right now. I don't think we need a witty back-and-forth after EVERY single spot in a match. I also realize that heb, not you, did the commentary. I'm just making an observation on the commentary at this juncture, through the pre-show and PPV opener.
-Iron Shiek's interview completely redeems the triple demerits from the pre-show.
-The women's match was spectacular in its brutal violence. Not the type of thing I'd like to see all the time, but a real spectacle when used as a rare device.
-BLK Out gets an interview on the pre show and the ppv? Woulda been nice to hear from the champs somewhere in there, especially with Cornette in their corner.
-Gah, the commentary is really becoming bothersome. A ladder match should be brisk action, but it feels like I'm having to slog through the commentary to get to what happens next. I'd much prefer to see about half as much commentary, with more crowd reaction and selling from the participants than see the commentators work on their standup.
-Holy shit, an INSANE fall by Acid onto the ladder propped up on the top rope in the corner. Crazy crazy crazy. And great.
-Time for the comedy match. See, HERE is where it'd be appropriate for the commentators to schtick it up from bell to bell.
-Marty WINS! Be interesting to see where it goes from here. Jannetty's been made out to be the jobber of jobbers, and not at all in a lovable loser kind of way. Beef's obviously the court jester of the fed, but still that's a big blow to his future in-ring credibility. Like I said, intrigued to see what happens next.
-Make it two straight backstage interviews where Gertner is met with silence. That was weird back to back.
-Enjoyed the Hero promo, though, again it's weird to see some guys getting mic time on both the PPV and pre-show and others not getting any.
-Another absolutely vicious brawl here in the cage match. The comedy match was absolutely necessary where it was to give the reader a break in all this wild, nonstop action. While it was a bit weird to see all the limited selling by Brain Damage, I actually think it made sense in the context of the match, given that BD has been presented as the unstoppable terminator of the fed. The finish, with Storm joining the Eastman stable, was a pleasant surprise. Gives the faction added credibility.
-The "can't read the format sheet" thing was mildly amusing once. Once, mind you.
-WOW, that might be the earliest standing shooting star in wrestling history in the other Menage first-round match.
-That said this was a very well-written intro to Pac. Someone who knew nothing about Pac prior to reading this would have left with a good understanding of the guy.
-I can barely fathom that move Evans did to win the match. I suppose it's physically possible, but damn. That's some intense stuff.
-Aaaand, there's the third "format sheet screw-up." Kids, it's only a running gag when it's actually funny.
-And honestly, who even SAYS "when in Rome" these days?
-Death match time! ... Yay? I'm not big on the death matches, so we'll see what happens. Snuff-tastically brutal, as would be expected. Except for... a time limit draw? In a death match? Creating a VACANT title? Boo-urns. You chose poorly, young Hobo.
-That was far too fluent for a Delirious promo. Ha.
I'll review the rest of this show later. I really like the action to this point, though.
