Definitely captured the retro feel in the opening. I'm a huge mark for late 80s & early 90s WWF, so this peaks my interest.
something weird.. Not sure why, but the first word of every line is capitalized. Not sure if it's freewebs doing or intentional.. sort of weird.
Gorilla & Ventura do a good job of running down the what’s happenin’ of 1988 in the opening bit. Would have liked for less Vince McMahon name dropping and more Jack Tunney, but hey, what can you do.
Spot on Bobby Heenan promo! The only thing I would have added is a “who-who-who” from one of the Islanders as they walk off set.
Powers of Pain look very strong in their quasi-debut. A glorified squash, but it definitely did what was needed and got the PoP over as strong bad mama jammas, and set the gears in motion for the Powers of Pain-Demolition match. I like this booking, because it means that horrible double turn at Survivor Series 88 never happens.
Demolition weren’t near angry enough. More screaming needed. Plus, they didn’t call Mean Gene Howard.
And a baby shaking, hand kissing baby face promo from Strike Force. They are SO losing the straps..
Not sure how I feel about two Tag Team matches in a row..
And Strike Force pull the shocking upset out of no where, after Demolition both Axed them and Smashed them for a majority of the match. Not too sure how I feel about this, long term. On one hand, Demolition-PoP seemed tailor made for Wrestlemania 4, but there’s always the chance of a rematch between now and then on either TV or a SNME type show, so it’s not horrible. Demolition looks strong either way.
Double count out is a pretty good finish for Honky-Beefcake. It makes them both look strong and gets over the brawl. Sets up rematches on the house show scene too.
And Beefcake shaves Honky! Never seen that coming!
Great promo from DiBiase.
And a good follow up from Hogan. Really captured Hogan well.
Hogan-DiBiase was a really good match. I was expecting DiBiase to pull out the win myself, especially with neither of the other titles changing hands..
I liked the short little pre-Rumble promos. Everyone got their gimmicks over and put in their two cents.
The Rumble match was amazing. It was everything a Rumble should be. The finish was an absolute shocker. I NEVER seen Bad News winning coming but man, if that doesn’t set up a hell of a Wrestlemania 4..
Overall, this was really good. It was like watching a Coliseum Video straight off of eBay! Absolutely retro. It felt exactly like WWF from that time and was very accurate to the time period. The booking was quite good and set a lot of long term plans, especially hyping up pretty much every match into Wrestlemania 4. I can’t wait to read more from this series!
