\As the Smoky Mountain Wrestling TV studio opens its doors this Friday in Knoxville, the tournament to crown new tag team champions also begins.
You know with Jim Cornette running the show, tag team wrestling will be a huge deal in the new SMW.
It will be an eight-team tournament, with the finals taking place at the Volunteer Slam on May 15 from the Civic Coliseum in Knoxville.
Here's a look at what teams have been confirmed for the tournament at this point:
-The Rock & Roll Express, Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson.
-Leviathan and Big Bossman.
-Edge and Christian.
-Taka Michinoku and partner of his choice.
-La Parka and partner of his choice.
-2 open spots.
Taka Michinoku asked for a shot in the tournament, citing his previous title reigns in the WWF, CWF and Japan as credentials.
Lita successfully petitioned to get La Parka into the tournament, and word has it his partner will be revealed soon.
The rest of the bracket's been thrown into turmoil by the recent opening of Windy City Wrestling, which saw several SMW talents travel to the Midwest. The new team of Simon Diamond and Sean O'Haire was scheduled to compete, but has been broken up in its infancy with O'Haire defecting to Windy City. Will Diamond find a new partner?
The Rock & Roll Express will meet Leviathan and Bossman in one of two first-round matches on this week's show!
