The first month of WCW most certainly wasn't the most memorable. The brighter spots in that first month was when Chavo Guerrero unseated "Sugar" Shane Helms for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship in of all things a steel cage live on WCW Monday Nitro. Diamond Dallas Page had formed a close friendship with Chris Kanyon the two started calling themselves "The Jersey Boys" with seemingly their soul purpose was stripping that WCW World Title away from Booker T by any means possible. Kanyon and DDP took out Stevie Ray, they took out Booker T's wife, they even tried to hurt Booker T. After DDP attacked Booker's wife he threatned the owner of WcW Shane McMahon. DDP and Shane actually had a street fight live on WCW Monday Nitro before Shane volunteered himself to be the special referee for the main event between these two during Bash at the Beach. Shane called the thing right down the middle and at the end of the night Booker T outlasted DDP in the first ever pay per view main event of the Shane McMahon era.
While Kanyon was helping DDP try and become a FOUR TIME, FOUR TIME, FOUR TIME, WcW World Heayvweight Champion he ran into his own problem in the form of an in ring rivalry with Rob Van Dam. Rob Van Dam has more nicknames than anyone in the sport but Kanyon had one he wanted. Kanyon had long been touted the "Innovator of Offense". The two men put this nickname to the test during Bash at the Beach. The two men competed in a "Triple Threat Theater". With three different style matches throughout the night Rob Van Dam was able to come back from a 1-0 deficit to beat Kanyon 2 falls to 1 starting RVD with the right momentum to soon challenge for bigger things.
With things descending into chaos quickly those first two weeks on the air Shane McMahon called on a man he knew could restore and keep order even if that meant with violence. He named none other than "The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer as the commish of World Championship Wrestling. One man that didn't take well to this "Bingo Hall Warrior" being the commish was the technically sound Lance Storm. Lance had promised to bring WCW back to its glory days were the masters of the mat ruled over giants and entertainers. Lance promised an army, not only that he promised Tommy Dreamer would be the first victim in his army's war. The two competed in WCW's first ever Stairway to Hell match with a kendo stick hanging high above the arena. Lance Storm was right a war was brewing, and he had formed an Army in the form of "The Technical Giant" Mike Awesome. As Mike Awesome picked up the commish Tommy Dreamer and launched him over the top rope and through a table with his Awesome Bomb one thing became clear. Lance Storm had made two promises and delivered, maybe out of everyone in WCW he was the man that was to be most feared.
In Volume Three WCW gets its footing as it marches towards such traditional events such as War Games, Halloween Havoc, and of course would WCW ever be WCW without "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair?
