Hi
I had some free time and I liked the look of Ant's latest card, so I figured I'd review.
Hello Ant. This is the first card of yours I've read, so I don't really have a grasp on your concept or your storylines atm, but I'll do my best.
Some random thoughts
- The commentary needs some work. To me, it's written like you've just done Generic Commentators #1 through #3 and then given them real names afterwards. It gets better as the card goes on, but the opening segment is pretty awkward. Heenan and Lawler are color guys, and they don't plug matches. They sound less like the two wittiest color guys in the business and more like Todd Grisham hosting WWE Experience.
- And this is less to do with the content of the commentary, but having Heenan and Lawler seems silly. Switching one of them with an analyst like Tenay would suit your fed, especially if you're running technical matches like Dinsmore/Regal.
- The match writing on the other hand, is spectacular. I'm not the kind of guy to
- Sorry to hammer home the commentary thing, but...
Heenan: As the young people say… he got OWNED.
No.
Just no.
- I LOVED Tazz/Homicide. Loved the promo, loved the match even more. FORK stabs, barbed wire tables, piledrivers on barbed wire chairs, oh my. And the ending had a bit of a swerve with the Tazmission out of nowhere. Awesome stuff.
- A good promo from Angle too. Captured his character well.
- Gibson/Angle was another good match, liked the tension between Heyman and Gibson. I'm trying to image Paul Heyman getting Tiger Driver'ed. That's funny.
- Tag match was also well done, I know I struggle to keep track of 4 guys in the ring when I'm writing matches, and you had what... 16? And it was all coherant. Is niiiicee.
- Jericho/Joe was off the charts. Loved the Monster vs The Lionheart deal, and it made sense for Joe to lose in a ladder match. Keeps both men very strong.
- Copeland/RVD was neat also, as was Copeland's post-match firing. Interesting to see where that goes.
- Heel Cena! Nice! And he's fighting.....
What
TEST?
Ok.
I... I've seen a lot of things on Book. Silver King being a credible mid-carder. Sabu fighting in the main event of Wrestlemania. Evan Karagias falling for Meng. But... I just can't fantasy picture Test as a World Champion while Samoa Joe, Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho hang a few matches below the main. But hey, whatever floats your boat.
Overall, I liked it and I'm glad I read it. The commentary is your weakest point, and needs an overhaul. If anything, I'd like to see more angles, but this was a PPV so I understand why it was match heavy. Consider me impressed.
