WWF Raw Is War 5/29 - "State of Emergency" (sounds serious)
Rock/Mankind/Stone Cold/Y2J Opening segment - Have I ever mentioned that you probably have the best opening segments of all fantasy bookdom? Your Raws always start off big and promises an exciting finish. That's how a good Raw should operate: hook the fan tuning in at the beginning, and promise an exciting main event that they'll HAVE TO stick around for. So yeah... Rock/Mankind vs. Stone Cold/Jericho? I'm there.
BTW - I know you've been plugging away at this series for nine years (NINE. YEARS.), but you really nail the interviews. The lingo, the style, the catchphrases.... I have no doubt I'm hearing Rock and Stone Cold when they speak. Your Vince is also highly entertaining.
Anyway... some good matches promised at the start. Hardy/D-Lo will be fun, as is Angle/Christian and HARDCORE HOLLY GETS A TITLE SHOT HELL YES!! I hope he can pull off the win, but I wouldn't bet on it. Especially with that damn Jarrett lurking around.
So, Shane has to face the Stooges tonight, huh? Could be interesting. Shane was always a decent in-ring performer.
Edge/Albert in a KOTR qualifier - Well, the right man won. It's fun to see you haven't caved in and made Edge & Christian comedians like they started doing in 2000. It always seems that Edge is on the verge of attaining main event status in your series, so I hope he does well at KOTR.
Ah, hell! That damn DX is in the building.
Kurt Angle Interview - Again, you capture the character so well. Angle totally would insult a country's gross national product. Christian was busy already today; hopefully Albert doesn't try to exact revenge during his IC title match...
DX in the ring - See, you really captured this element of WWF 2000. We're about to close off the first hour and there's only been one match. ;D But it's okay as long as the show is entertaining, which it has been. Oh, and what's this 'Next Generation' song of Shane's? Guess I missed that one. So Shane rewards them with a tag title match? Huh. The Acolytes are one of my all-time favorite tag teams, so hopefully they'll find a way to retain.
Uh oh, Triple H is crabby.
Uh oh, The Acolytes are here! Great timing, fellas!
Eddie Guerrero vs. HARDCORE HOLLY - Hells yeah, its on now! Oh, and wouldn't you know it, but Jeff Jarrett interferes! It seems these two have one HELL of a match down the road. That's fine. I like Eddie as champion, anyway.
Oh yeah, Sid Vicious is in this series. When did he show up, again?
Kurt Angle vs. Christian - Now we're rolling along with the matches! Say what you want about Kurt Angle, but he's been a defending champion so far. Nice match between these two, as their styles work really well together. And Angle picks up the clean win! Nicely done.
Well, its good to know that Hardy and D-Lo will have a fairly-contested match. Gotta love the sportsmanship!
And we're being treated to the FIRST-EVER Dudleyville match! This might not be a well thought-out plan by Spike and Meanie. And yep, they're getting obliterated. TAZZ!! SATURN!! We got ourselves one HELL of a brawl! A 6-man tag at KOTR, perhaps? Just taking a guess as a viewer.
Shane vs. Patterson/Briscoe - Alright, so there is one thing I didn't care for on this show. I think that Vince should've faced the Stooges if Shane WON, not lost. I mean, it is a handicap match, after all. I just don't like the idea of someone wanting to lose a match. Anyway, Shane bests his dad one again, and somewhere down the road, Vince will face the Stooges. Anyone else think that Vince could wipe the floor with those two?
D-Lo/Hardy in a KOTR qualifier - You're really rolling out a hell of an 8-man tourney lineup, Den. Just about everyone that's qualified would be a legit winner, which is just the way it should be planned. None of this King Mabel bullshit. So Hardy wins in a match that I would've been happy going either way. Ivory as a face is an interesting change, too.
Acolytes vs. HHH/X-Pac - Oh, jeezus! Kane just pulled Chyna into the depths of Hell! That was pretty unexpected. Also unexpected was Triple H going down after her! Whoops. Made X-Pac dead in the water with the Acolytes. Which is fine. Keeps the tag titles on a real tag team, which is ALWAYS good. WHAT? Kane is at ringside?! This is getting crazy. Road Dogg's here, and we have pandemonium again. DX is high-tailing it outta here.
... but what about Mr. Ass? It is in Triple H's character to just say 'fuck him', but DX decides to stay for Mr. Ass' match with Benoit. Which is NEXT! And is over! Well, this certainly wasn't a banner night in the history of DX.
No Raw Is War would be complete without a Rock backstage interview. Again, way to nail the character, Den.
Rock/Mankind vs. Stone Cold/Y2J - And we close off Raw with a barnburner of a tag match. Four of the top superstars giving it their all. What a way to hype up this MASSIVE feud of sorts. Whos gettin the shot at King of the Ring? What a build-up! And you leave the audience hanging for next week. Well done, Den.
Overall, it is another impressive Raw. You've always used your Raw show diligently to build up the upcoming pay-per-views (which really is their intention, isn't it?), and tonight was no exception. Great tourney being set up, Holly/Jarrett, Shane/Vince, Rock/Stone Cold/Y2J... what's not to love? I still don't agree with the stipulation of the Shane/Stooges match, but I've already said my piece on that.
Looking forward to next week, Den.
