And we finally conclude the longest weekend ever.. Around noon on Friday, I left my house just outside of Indianapolis in route to Anderson, Indiana. The night was a long night of bad drumming and even worse singing to Rock Band that ended around 4 AM.
Saturday started way too early when my buddy's dog attacked us all at 8 AM. We left Anderson around 1 PM, grabbed some people and headed in route to Joliet. Five hours and 20 miles out of the way getting lost, we finally made it there.
IWA Mid South's 500th Show

Attendance: Approximately 400
Once arriving to the building, we find out that Ace Steel, Human Tornado, and the suprise of Nate Webb have all missed the show. Jack Thriller is also out with a broken ankle. Mild disappointment, but it's still going to be a great show.
Ian is announcing the no-shows and is opening the show, when he's interrupted by Jimmy Jacobs. The "kill Jimmy Jacobs" heat is definately not limited to Plainfield, and may actually be stronger in Joliet. Jimmy gets out of line and nearly gets blasted by Ian, but it's not to be, because here comes BJ WHITMER in the first of many suprises of the night. Ian tells BJ he can't add him to the show because the show is already stacked like crazy anyways. BJ says he'll kill Jacobs for free, so the I Quit match is now BJ versus Jacobs.
Dingo v. Chris Able
Dingo was O-V-E-R! If you haven't seen Dingo, look him up. He looks and moves like Danielson, only more compacted, tattooed, and Australian. I didn't catch the young guy's name because of a lengthy D-I-N-G-O chant, but he was pretty clean in what he did. Dingo picks up the win with a moonsault.
5 way Young Gun Challenge, winner gets booked on any IWA show they want in 2008. Ethan Page, Jake O'Neal, Bryan Skyline, Kris Chambers and Buzz Jones
When I seen people shitting on this match, and not even bothering to name anyone and just "five young guys I didn't care about" it hurt. because this was a damn fine match. The "multiman flippy craziness" matches have always been a highlight for me as of late, because it shows the future. not just of IWA, but of the indies and wrestling in general. Kris Chambers wins in around 10 minutes, but Skyline, O'Neal, and Buzz Jones all looked extremely impressive. I hope to see Buzz back in the near future.
Toby Klein (with "Halfbreed" Billy Gram) versus Davey Richards
Billy Gram sucks. Period. In the days of wrestling managers becoming obsolete, he is one of the main reasons. Really good strong style exchange and Toby hit a couple of cool high risk moves on the better-than-IWA quality ropes. Toby gets the win after Gram sprays Richards with the thickest green mist I have ever seen.
I Quit match BJ Whitmer (with Jim Fannin) versus Jimmy Jacobs
Brutal, brutal, brutal. Did I mention brutal? A fan handed in a Singapore cane that was brought for the Fans Bring the Weapons match and BJ absolutely murdered Jacobs with it. Several really nasty shots to the face, many directly to the injured knee, and other really nasty stuff. BJ gets Jacobs into the corner and Jim Fannin proceeds to duct tape him in place. BJ canes Jacobs a few times and asks for the submission, but instead gets spit on. This leads to about five minutes of some of the nastiest cane shots I have ever seen, period. Jacobs gets free after the ring crew cuts him free and we're treated to a figure four caning, dualing spike stabs to the face, and eventually Jacobs stabbing BJ in the crotch around 15 times with the spike for the submission.At one point in the figure four after a particularly sick cane shot, Jacobs passed out and the referee called for the bell, but Jim Fannin ordered for the match to be restarted, because it was an I Quit match, not a knock out match. Must see..
TLC Match, the winner gets a title shot at a title of their choice Jayson Strife, Mickie Knuckles, Ruckus, Ash, Sexxxy Eddy, Devon Moore, "Diehard" Dustin Lee, and Brandon Thomaselli
If you've seen the We're No Joke TLC match.. Take that and amply it by about 20. Ridicious stuff here. Some of the sickest bumps I have ever seen. Diehard took a suplex into an open ladder propped in the corner and completely mangled it. Mickie Knuckles was dropped onto a ladder/chair bridge and it sliced her back very badly. "The Resident Rockstar" Ash took so much abuse that post match, his face was a swollen disgusting mess. The MVP of the match was definately Mickie Knuckles, who proved she every bit belonged in the match plus some. One of my favorite spots of the match involved Mickie going up the ladder. She knocked off Thomaselli, Ash, and Devon Moore, but from behind her comes Sexxxy Eddy. He teases that he's going to pull her off, but instead just grabs two handfuls of ass and goes on his way. Really good stuff. Ash wins following several eliminations. Really good match. Must see match. About 5x better than anything 'Money in the Bank' has produced.
IWA Mid-South Tag Team Championship Vito & Sal Thomaselli (c) versus BLK Out (Joker & Ricky Reyes)
During the TLC match, BLK Out ran in to help out Ruckus and ended up ran off by the Thomasellis for a lengthy brawl through the crowd. This match was originally set to be Joker & Sabian versus Vito & Sal, but was changed after Brandon Thomaselli broke Sabian's jaw in CZW. Early in the match, Sal and Joker throw SHOTGUN chops. Sal breaks the chop fest with FIGHTING SPIRIT~! followed by a poke to the eyes, Piper style. This was an all over the place brawl, but a hell of a fun one. BLK Out isolated Sal at one point and tried to break HIS jaw, but the tables ended up turned for an Iron Saints near fall. BLK Out end up going over and we've got new Tag Team champions. BLK Out get huge baby face pops for finally taking the titles off the Iron Saints, who had held the titles for 10 months since the Candido Cup.
Vulgar Display of Power (with Toby Klein & "Halfbreed" Billy Gram) defeated Elite Pro's students
The original match was set to be Mickie Knuckles & LuFisto versus Brain Damage & Deranged, but LuFisto had to pull out for personal problems, both of IWA and her CZW booking this coming up weekend. When Vulgar Display of Power hit the ring and there were no opponents, Vito & Sal offered up their students from the Elite Pro dojo for some "due paying". Fittingly enough, the VDoP trainer Toby Klein is in their corner for this match. VDoP roughed the students up for a while until...
Vulgar Display of Power (with Toby Klein & "Halfbreed" Billy Gram) defeated "Mean" Mitch Page and Rollin' Hard (with Jim Fannin)
Two "IWA originals" to the core return. Rollin Hard is just coming back full time after beating colon cancer and Mitch retired in the Summer of 2007. Fannin has my weapon for the evening, the thumbtack bat, in hand and this one gets bloody in a hurry. All over the place brawl with Mean & Hard more than holding their own with the rough tough young'ins. To add fuel to the fire, in Summer 2006, "Mean" Mitch, Jim Fannin, and the other New Bad Mother F*ckers were who took Brain Damage out of action for nearly a year. Damage gets his revenge in this bloodfeast, as he and Deranged pick up the win. Somewhere along the way, Fannin and Gram get into a scuffle on the floor, which sees Gram getting absolutely mutilated by the thumbtack bat. Fannin nails him HARD once, Gram tries for a takedown, and Fannin potatoes him around 15 times, getting the thumbtack bat stuck in Gram's hair. Fannin proceeds to yank the bat BACK out and drill him again. Seeing this scuffle made me want to see Fannin versus Jacobs, one on one.
IWA Mid-South Strong Style Championship: Viking versus Michael Elgin versus Drake Younger versus Roderick Strong
This match was an elimination match, with knock out or tap out only rules applying and Jesus was it stiff. Roderick takes the first elimination via tap out, leaving a good portion of the crowd's favorite to win eliminated first. Viking is the next gone following several powerbombs into the corner and nasty shoulder breaker from Elgin for a tap out. Viking was at ringside and his hand was turning VERY purple. The final fall comes with Elgin over Younger. Immediately afterwards, Elgin's partner in 'Pretty Unreal' Ash comes out and declares that he is going to cash in his shot at Elgin's strong style title. Elgin talks him out of it and into a title shot with Chuck Taylor's light heavyweight title.
Conflict of Interest match: Insane Lane and Jason Hades versus Josh Abercrombie & Corporal Robinson versus Tank & Lucky versus Freakshow & Chrisjen Hayme versus Dysfunction & Troy Walters.
The "big man" gets a shot at the IWA-MS Death Match championship and the "little man" gets a shot at the Light Heavyweight title on April 12th when IWA returns to Joliet. Tank takes out everyone, including his partner early on, then uses his partner as a weapon. The action spills outside and all the little guys take dives, leaving just Freakshow and Tank inside the ring. First the 400+ pound Tank teases a dive, but is cut off by the 350+ pound Freakshow, who goes for a dive of his own, but is powerbombed by Tank. The match comes back in the ring and Tank nails a quadruple fireman's carry slam on all the "little" guys, including his own partner. Tank is reminding me a lot of King Kong Bundy circa Wrestlemania 3 here with his killing of his partner, over and over. Lane gets the win here so the team of Lane and Hades get title shots on April 12th, but WAIT! The Necro Butcher is at commentary and notes that the crowd brought a lot of "crazy stupid sh*t" and that there was "more than enough sh*t for three people". The Death Match title main event is now a three way dance.

Eddie Kingston (champion) versus 2 Cold Scorpio
GREAT match. Match of the Night, and on a night like this, that really says something. Kingston proved he's more than just a brawler here with a great scientific match, and Scorpio proved he hasn't lost a step since 1990. This match had everything from a great catch as catch can style match to a ridiciously stiff slap and punch exchange, to a fair amount of high flying and a nice brawl on the outside. Kingston beats Scorpio clean, but what's this? A BLK Out run in. Kingston seems displeased as BLK Out attacks his childhood hero and the man who inspired him to get into wrestling. Scorpio starts to fight off BLK Out, and KINGSTON IS HELPING SCORPIO! Back to back and BLK Out is gone.
A lengthy promo went on here between Scorpio, Kingston, BLK Out, Ian Rotten, and later Mickie Knuckles, setting up BLK Out versus Kingston, Scorpio, and Mickie for April 12th. If anyone in BLK Out is pinned, they lose their tag titles. If Kingston is pinned, he loses the world title. Mickie would not put her women's title on the line.
IWA Mid-South Death Match Championship, Fans Bring the Weapons: Necro Butcher (champion) Danny Havoc versus Insane Lane
A wide varity of plunder here, from the typical barbed wire bats, thumbtack bats, and various light tube weapons, to home made tables, THUMBTACK HOT WHEELS, a toy bow & arrow with one thumbtack on the end of each arrow, a heater, and so much more. The brawl stays in the ring for a little bit of plunder breaking, before spilling outside. Not outside the ring, but outside the BUILDING! In extremely cold Chicago weather, Necro Butcher participates in an ice fight with Havoc and Lane, barefoot and shirtless. These weren't small ice balls they were using in a sitdown bar fight style snow ball fight, but rather giant hunks of ice. The match spilled back inside and went back to plunder breaking. Havoc took a dive off the stage and speakers, but ate light tubes on the way down. Back in the ring for more plunder breaking, Lane eliminated Necro following a back breaker onto two open chairs. The finish came with Danny Havoc pinning Insane Lane to capture his first championship in his entire wrestling career.
This show is not one to miss. Buy the DVD. I've said it before, this show tops We're No Joke. This is quite possibly the best non-tournament show IWA has had in a LONG time. Seriously must see stuff.
We ended up dropping people off around 7 AM and returning to Anderson around 8. I got home around 7 PM.. And was off to Raw less than 24 hours later. Review coming shortly.
